RE: POSITION LETTER ON THE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH BILL ISSUE

Dear Rev. Monsignor/Father:

Greetings of peace in the Lord!

During our clergy assembly last August 19, 2008, the Ministry for Family and Life, under Rev. Fr. Joel Jason, presented a position letter on the Reproductive Health Bill issue. The said letter is part of our signature campaign in defense of Catholic teachings and principles. It will be sent to the members of congress and other public officials in the archdiocese. The Cardinal expressed his desire to have this letter signed by him, the clergy, religious and lay faithful.

After taking into consideration the suggestions last assembly, the Ministry of Family and Life has finalized our position paper. Herewith is the said letter for your perusal.

Please exhaust all means available so that our signature campaign will reach the most number of our faithful. If necessary, let us bring this letter to the schools, offices and other establishments of our jurisdiction. Let our voices be heard by our government officials. Let us show them we are serious and united on this cause. Let us promote active social awareness and involvement among the faithful. Part of Christian discipleship is good citizenship.

However, please be reminded that corollary to this communal action is proper catechesis on the issue. We must adequately teach our people the scriptural, theological and even scientific foundations of our position. Let us also intensify the Family and Life Ministry of our parishes.

Let us continue to pray for this advocacy so that we may help bring about a Filipino society built on real life and love.
