of the Coat of Arms

A. On dexter chief, gules (red),the tower of Castille or (gold)
and the Crescent that represents the Immaculate Conception, the
patroness of the Archdiocese. On dexter base azure, (blue), a sea
lion engarde proper with a cross 0r (gold).
The above represent the coat of arms of the Archdiocese of Manila.
B. On sinister chief, gules (red) two escallops proper and a pilgrim’s
staff or (gold) – attributes of St. James the Great, Apostle,
Patron Saint of the Archbishop:
On sinister fess, or (gold), are three roses gules (red) representing
the mystical rose – Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, Patron
Saint of the Archbishop’s native town:
On sinister base, verte (green) a cross or (gold) debruised by
a rose - garlanded heart gules(red) – symbolizing the willingness
of the Archbishop to carry the cross, and if need to be affixed
to it.
The above represent the personal coat of arms of the Archbishop.
C. Hence:
His Motto: “SERVIAM” – I will serve.
This motto is the antithesis of that of the devil: “NON-SERVIAM”
– I will not serve.
