Statement of Jaime L. Cardinal Sin on Coup Plot
"LORD GUIDE OUR FEET IN
THE WAY OF PEACE"
We believe from credible sources of the government and military
sectors and civil society that there are at present ongoing
plots, organized and already in operation, set on destabilizing
our society, undermining and if possible overturning even
with violence the democratic institutions of our country.
As citizens of our Republic and faithful Christians, we believe
it is our duty to make ourselves intelligently alert and vigilant
in the present situation so that the common good of our people
may prevail, that our nation and Republic may stand strong
anf firm in the face of these authentic threats from those
who would place their own personal and group interests above
the general interest of our Filipino people.
We cannot deny that much reform is needed in our society
and government. But we must urge that what must be done for
national renewal can and must be done through peaceful means
and deeds of justice, on the part of our leaders and of everyone
of us.
We therefore urge you, the faithful of our archdiocese and
suffragan dioceses, to turn now most seriously and earnestly
to prayer and discernment before the Lord, individually and
together, and be ready to move to whatever action may be called
for and necessary to guard our President and the legitimate
government and to keep our nation in the way of peace.
We turn also to our Blessed Mother, in this year of the Holy
Rosary, to ask her Son to bring justice in our land, to renew
minds and hearts with hope and purpose in our faith in God
and faith in our people. With all our hearts, we beg the Heart
of Jesus, the Lord of History, to place gifts of truth and
justice into all our hearts, and to lead our feet in the way
of peace.
