Cardinal Santos Medical Center
Circular
TO: ALL CLERGY IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF MANILA
RE: CARDINAL SANTOS MEDICAL CENTER
===================================================================
For the last twenty years, CARDINAL SANTOS MEDICAL CENTER (“CSMC”) has been managed and operated by Hospital Managers, Inc.(“HMI”), particularly, by the Murillo Family, headed by the late Hilario Murillo, Sr. Through the years, and with the efforts of HMI and the medical staff, nurses and employees, CSMC developed into a truly world-class facility worthy of the name “Cardinal Santos.” Indeed, CSMC has been a place of comfort, refuge and healing, especially to our bishops and priests.
As we receive this hospital from the management of HMI upon the expiration of our 20-year Joint Apostolate Agreement (“JAA”) with them on July 31, 2008, we extend our deepest gratitude to the Murillo family.
With the expiration of the JAA on 31 July 2008, I would like to inform you that I have decided to place the care of the Cardinal Santos Medical Center into the courageous individuals of the Makati Medical Center, headed by its Chairman, Mr. Manuel V. Pangilinan, whom we have chosen to take the reigns as interim operator for a period of six (6) months commencing on 15 August 2008. Meanwhile, between August 1 and 15, 2008, the officers of HMI have agreed to undertake a transition period with representatives of Makati Medical Center, in order to properly effect a smooth turn-over of the hospital premises and all equipment and systems necessary for the hospital’s continued operation.
During this interim period,
1. the existing structures and operations of the hospital shall be preserved, as much as possible, so as not to disrupt the high level of quality service that the hospital’s patients have now grown accustomed to. This includes the continued employment of all existing medical staff, nurses, and support personnel, without diminishment of salaries or benefits, as required by law as contractual employees.
2. the formal selection process for the long-term operator of CSMC will take place, so that before the end of the interim period the Archdiocese shall have chosen the long-term operator that will manage the hospital for the next 20 years.
3. the free medical services, assistance and treatment to bishops, priests, religious and lay personnel duly-accredited by RCAM shall continue as previously enjoyed under HMI.
With these changes taking place at CSMC, we request not only your continued cooperation, but your prayers most especially, as we look forward to the hospital’s continued excellence in the serve of God’s people.
God bless you all.
Fraternally yours,
(signed)
+GAUDENCIO B. CARDINAL ROSALES, D.D.
