Itinerary of Pope’s visit to Panama for WYD 2019 released

 

The itinerary for the Holy Father’s visit to Panama to attend the World Youth Day celebration has been released. Pope Francis will be in the country from January 23-27, 2019.

In an article posted on the Vatican website, on January 23, Pope Francis will arrive from Rome at Panama’s Tocumen International Airport. He will be officially welcomed and will travel after to the Nunciature.

At the Presidential Palace, the Holy Father will be welcomed on January 24 followed by a meeting with state authorities and diplomatic corps.

Later in the day, the Pope will meet with the Bishops of Central America in the Church of St. Francis of Assisi before the opening of the World Youth Day at Cinta Costera.

On January 25, Pope Francis will visit a youth center where a penance service will be held. In the afternoon, he will attend a Youth Way of the Cross at the Cinta Costera area of Panama City.

The Pope will preside over Mass in the Basilica of Santa Maria la Antigua on January 26 where he will consecrate the altar of the Cathedral which has been newly restored. After the Mass, he will join the young people over lunch. Later in the evening, he will participate at a vigil with young people at Metro Park.

On January 27, his last day at Panama, Pope Francis will celebrate the concluding Mass of the World Youth Day at Metro Park. After the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, he will visit the house of the Good Samaritan. He will attend a meeting with the WYD volunteers after the visit.

In the evening, a farewell ceremony will be held at the Panama International Airport before he returns back to Rome. (Jheng Manalang Prado/RCAM-AOC)
