FORMATION CENTER

San Lorenzo Ruiz Lay FormationCenter

San Carlos Pastoral Formation Complex
EDSA, Guadalupe, 1200 Makati City
Tel: 895-8855
Director: Mr. Valentino San Pascual

“ Mindful of the Second Vatican Council’s pressing call to the laity to become increasingly involved in the life of the Church, His Holiness (JPII) fervently  hopes that this Center may offer them the necessary resources to strengthen their faith and deepen their understanding of Christian principles for the proper application of those principles to the problems of contemporary world.”

(+martinez, 1 March 1984)

“LAYFORCE…(is) a house of prayer and spiritual formation for the laity as well as training ground for the exercise of their pastoral co-responsibility with the clergy.”

(+Jaime L. Cardinal Sin, D.D.)

OBJECTIVES

The Programs are designed to facilitate

  1. Deepening of faith and prayer life
  2. Appropriation of evangelical attitudes for effective Christian witnessing
  3. Acquisition of pastoral skills
  4. building and nurturing of basic ecclesial communities ad other small communities of faith.

The Center aims to provide appropriate venue for the laity’s quest to deepen their faith, prayer and spirituality.

FORMATION PROGRAMS

1. Catholic Lay Evangelization Program (CLAYE)

Designed to evangelize Catholics as well as to inspire and train them to be evangelizers in the parish.  The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)  in December 1998 mandated LAYFORCE as the National Training Center for Catholic Lay Evangelizers.

2. School Evangelization

The focus is on evangelizing the teachers and school administrators who are precious vessels of instruction and indispensable channels of good manners and proper conduct.  School Evangelization also reawakens the rest of the school community – non-teaching staff, maintenance personnel and even their bus operators – to become God’s prophets here and now.

3. Care-Giving Evangelization of the Sick

Welcomes anyone who wants to be a Good Samaritan to a neighbor in need.  This modules prepares the participants to not only heal and care for the sick but to recreate the afflicted person and make him “whole” again.

Care-giving moves from the physical expression of caring to a journey of healing towards Jesus.

4. Servant Leadership Training

This includes topics on Christian leadership and management, effective communication skills, stewardship, vision/mission setting, team building, etc.  Designed to equip parish leaders with skills needed for effective servant discipleship.

5.  Joy of Discovery

A 4 hours-a-week (for 7 weeks) study workshop  series which equips the participants with basic skills and methods to better understand and appreciate bible reading.

6. Teachings on the Catholic Faith

Gives us a clear picture of God whom we love, serve and journey with.

7. Open-to-the-Public Workshops/Forum

Half-day or whole day talks, seminars, discussion on specific issues that beset the society and the church in general (PPCRV Involvement, Church-State issues, etc.)
