In the spirit of enthusiasm inspired by PCM II (Title
VI, Sec. 10) AMO PDM is a special ministry for Persons with Disabilities
(PWDs) of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila under the Ministry
of Social Services. Despite the new name, it is not a new ministry in
the Archdiocese. Rather the concept of AMO PDM is the fruit of close
to two years immersion-reflection of the already existing ministries,
viz., Commission for the Pastoral Care of the Handicapped (PASCH) and
Manila Archdiocesan Commission for Deaf Ministry (MACDM).
AMO PDM is a step further to re-name and re-structure
the Commission for the Pastoral Care of the Handicapped (PASCH) created
by His Eminence Jaime Cardinal L. Sin, Archbishop of Manila, on March
6, 1998. AMO PDM, therefore, while still a sub-commission
of the Ministry of Social Services, is an umbrella ministry covering various
sub-ministries so identified in view of their particular focus and functions.
These sub-ministries are: Deaf and Hard-of Hearing Ministry, Visually
impaired Ministry and Ministry for those with Multiple Disabilities and
Ministry for the Mentally Ill.
GOAL
“Full participation of persons with disabilities in the
life of the Church.”
VISION
Faithfully committed to the teaching of Holy Mother, the Church and totally dedicated
to her service under the direct guidance and supervision of the Archbishop
of Manila through the designated delegate, AMO PDM envisions persons with
disabilities uphold their dignity as active, productive, self-reliant,
and fulfilled members of God’s community.
MISSION
For persons with disabilities, PDM seeks to:
- Provide religious, moral and values formation;
- Offer skills training to prospective care-givers
and catechists
- Provide assistance through referral to other agencies for
rehabilitation, training and employment;
- Offer counseling and human services and
- Advocate awareness of PWDs’ presence, roles
and rights in the Archdiocesan and in the parochial level.
