Brief History
Urban housing, especially for the poor, is a major concern
of both the Government and the Church. Recognizing the right of all the
decent housing, the Church has joined the government in addressing the
urban housing problem.
In February 1983, His Eminence, Jaime cardinal Sin,
established the Domus Mariae Foundation, Inc. (DMFI) to provide low-cost housing for the poor.
It was incorporated on February 24, 1983 as
a non-stock, non-profit organization to provided socialized housing for
the poor and the needy families.
Principal Objective
Domus Mariae Foundation, Inc. ‘s principal objective is to assist our urban
poor to acquire suitable low-costing housing, either in situ or relocation
sites, that they may live in accordance to their dignity as human beings.
Major Activities
- Applications/Implementation of the Programs/projects designed based thereon-
- to buy, sell, lease, hire or otherwise acquire through whatever consideration,
whether through the benevolence or generosity of the transferor or
otherwise, dispose of, mortgage or encumber real property, improved
or unimproved, of every kind and description, and any interest or
right therein,
- to own, hold, control, maintain, manage and develop the same to supervise
the layout, consolidate, subdivide, resubdivide and plot tracts of land;
- To develop said land into urban or rural subdivision with the construction
and installation of the necessary roads, curbs and gutters, drainage
system, water system, electric system, sidewalks, open space for recreational
and other public use.
- Fostering better relationship among the members of the community by organizing
a cooperation association to be composed of the lot owners and residents
of the community for the main purpose of proper operation, maintenance
and beautification of the roads and community facilities and utilities,
security, fire protection, enforcement or restrictive easements and
generally to protect the health, safety and morale of the residents;
- Collecting, evaluating, studying, publishing data, statistics and other
informative materials to be utilized in planning, analyzing and executing
projects for social development.
