Telefax: 277-0351
Tel:  277-1473; 446-7341
Coordinator: Sr. Mary Milagros R. Santos, RGS

Brief History

Until 1957, heart of Mary Villa was known as the Charter Residence, haven, refuge and home for unwed mothers established by the Good Shepherd Sisters (RGS) within the property owned by the Archdiocese of Manila.  Recognizing the value and merits of the work done by the Sisters, the Archbishop of Manila, the Most Rev. Rufino J. Santos, D.D., on June 18, 1954, granted free and exclusive use of the property to the Sisters with the desire that the said charitable work should be expanded to cover the whole Archdiocese of Manila, providing not only home but also hospitalization and/or hospital facilities concomitant with the nature of the apostolate.  On May 2, 1957, the building was inaugurated and blessed by the Archbishop Rufino Santos and the place was called Heart of Mary Villa.  By 1957, about 110 women were housed there.  Seventy four babies were born that year who were mostly given up for adoption.

VISION

Heart of Mary Villa is a Christian community touched by God’s grace where the poor communities and the women and children experience a taste of God’s loving care.

MISSION

The Heart of Mary Villa performs three primary functions:

  1. Heart of Mary Villa Maternity – It provides services for healing and growth to women whose pregnancy poses problem for them and to the significant persons in their lives.
  2. Heart of Mary Villa Nursery and Pre-Adoption – This program aims to protect life and secure the best families for the infants and children under its care.

PHILOSOPHY

The Philosophy of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in operating Heart of Mary Villa is based on the belief that change and healing take place through relationships with self, others and God.

All the services of Heart of Mary Villa are based on compassionate acceptance of each individual and a belief in one’s dignity, echoing the tenet of St. Mary Euphrasia, a foundress of the Good Shepherd – “a person is of more value than work.”
