New bishop of Boac ordained
Bishop Sofronio Aguirre Bancud, SSS, was installed as fifth bishop of the Diocese of Cabanatuan (in Nueva Ecija) at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas de Tolentine on January 25 at 9:30 am.
The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Antonio A. Franco presided at the Eucharistic celebration marking his installation.
Bishop Bancud, a native of Tuguegarao, Cagayan, and a member of the Blessed Sacrament religious community, succeeds the late Bishop Sofio Balce.
Meanwhile Bishop-elect of Boac Rev. Fr. Reynaldo Gonda Evangelista was ordained to the episcopacy at the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Sebastian, Lipa City, on January 25 at 9 a.m.
The presider and ordaining prelate for the ordination Mass was Archbishop Antonio Franco, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, with Lipa Archbishop Ramon C. Arguelles, and Bishop Salvado Quizon, former auxiliary bishop of Lipa, were the co-ordaining prelates.
Manila Archbishop Gaudencio B. Rosales, former Archbishop of Lipa, was the homilist, while Ricardo Cardinal J. Vidal, Archbishop of Cebu and also former Archbishop of Lipa delivered a message.
