Manila welcomes Cardinal Rosales
The new Prince of the Church, the Archbishop of Manila, Gaudencio Cardinal B. Rosales, will be formally welcomed at a thanksgiving Mass on April 1 at 10 a.m. at the Manila Cathedral.
It will be his first public Mass in the Philippines following his elevation to the College of Cardinals by Pope Benedict XVI during the consistory of March 24 at the Vatican.
Cardinal Rosales is due to arrive from Rome tomorrow at 6:55 p.m. He will be welcomed at the airport by his consultores in the Archdiocese of Manila led by Auxiliary Bishop Bernardino Cortez and some laypeople led by former Ambassador to the Vatican Henrietta T. de Villa.
The first group to formally meet him will be his priests in the archdiocese, when they pray together the evening vespers on March 31.
Bishops of the Philippines and members of the clergy of Manila and its suffragan dioceses will concelebrate the thanksgiving Mass with the new Cardinal. Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, Archbishop of Cebu will deliver the homily. The Mass is also expected to draw attendance from the government, the diplomatic corps, parishes, religious organizations, the differently abled, his relatives and friends.
Cardinal Rosales is also set to be with the youth on April 2 and with the urban poor on April 3. He will be welcomed in his native province of Batangas on April 4, where he will stay till the following day. ##
