Ordination of new Manila auxiliary bishop
set on Aug. 19
Manila Auxiliary Bishop-elect Broderick S. Pabillo will be ordained on August 19 at St. Ezequiel de Moreno parish church in Macarascas, Palawan. Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, Archbishop of Manila, will be the ordaining prelate and the main celebrant at the ordination Mass at 2 p.m.
With his ordination the Archdiocese of Manila will now have two auxiliary bishops. The other is Bishop Bernardino Cortez.
Bishop-elect Pabillo, 51, was born in Negros Oriental. He finished elementary and high school at the Don Bosco School in Pampanga. He undertook college education and preparation for the priesthood at the Don Bosco Seminary in Laguna. He finished his Theology studies from the University of Santo Tomas.
He was ordained priest on December 8, 1982, after which he pursued Post graduate studies on Sacred Scriptures from the Biblicum in Rome. On his return he taught at the College Seminary of Don Bosco in Laguna and at the Salesian Theologate in Parañaque. He was rector at this theologate from 1996 to 1999.
In search of a more challenging pastoral ministry, Bishop Pabillo offered himself to the Apostolic Vicariate of Palawan where Bishop Pedro Arigo assigned him to be the parish priest of St. Ezequiel Moreno parish in Macarascas, about one and a half hours away from the provincial capital, Puerto Princesa City. Here he started a dormitory for students studying in public high schools near the area. Later on he converted the dormitory to a school for live-in students following the Distance Learning program of Angelicum School in Quezon City.
Volunteers implement the program through a tutorial style that guides the students through the Angelicum curriculum. The school started with 14 girl-students, now there are 63 boys and girls enrolled. It graduate four last March and they are now taking up college courses in Manila.
The Archdiocese of Manila will formally welcome Bishop Pabillo in a Mass at the Manila Cathedral on September 12. ###
