The Archdiocese of Manila welcomes His Eminence Walter Cardinal Kasper, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, His Eminence Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal, His Excellency Archbishop Fernando Filoni, the Apostolic Nuncio n the Philippines, their Excellencies, the participating Archbishops and Bishops, the Reverend Pastors and Priests, the lay men and women, all brethren, to the Archdiocese of Manila and in particular to the Pius XII Catholic Center.
We are all aware of the significance of this seminary in search of Christian Unity among believers in Christ Jesus. Division among believers is a contradiction to the will of God who, in the Lord Jesus, desires our unity.
There will be many things we will listen to even as we are open to the exchange of ideas and impressions with each one in the seminar. But the truth is (that) in a seminar like this one, searching for Christian Unity, you are invited to be part of the prayer of Jesus … “that all may be one, as you, Father, are in me, and I in you: I pray that you may be one in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.” (John 17:21). Every step and moment should bring us closer to unity, the very heart of the will of God.
