Environmental groups hold conference on Global Warming
The Archdiocese of Manila Ecology Desk, together with the Columban Fathers, Lingkod Tao Kalikasan Foundation Inc, and other partner institutions will hold a Global Warming and Climate Change Conference on September 22-23, 2007 at the College of the Holy Spirit of Manila.
Theme of the conference is “ Global Warming, Hamon sa Sambayanang Kristiyano !”.
The Conference aims:
- To raise the consciousness of the faithful of the Archdiocese of Manila on the serious condition of God’s creation by understanding Global Warming and Climate Change in the light of the Social Teachings of the Church.
- To help the faithful recognize their personal relationship with God’s creation and attain the fullness of life by resolving to actively work for the care of the earth in parish, vicariate and Archdiocesan levels.
- To recommend a concrete plan of action to be carried out by personal, institutional, parish and archdiocesan levels.
- To strengthen and expand the Care for the Earth program in the Archdiocese, parish and vicariate levels.
There will also be other activities related to the topic of the conference. Among these are:
- Photo Exhibit of different environmental situations
- Exhibit and forum on best practices to address global warming and climate change.
- Lectures on Climate Change featuring the following resource speakers: Fr. Sean McDonagh of the Columban Missionaries, writer and international speaker on varied environmental issues and a missionary to the Philippines for almost 30 years; and Dr. Rogelio N. Concepcion, former Director of the Bureau of Soils and Water Resources of the Department of Agriculture, who will share, based on his expertise and experiences as a community worker, on how the impact of climate change can be moderated.
- Workshops and action planning of groups to come up with concrete programs that can be adopted by communities, using input from the conference talks and discussions.
The participants will come from parishes, catholic schools, religious congregations and other church organizations of the Archdiocese of Manila and other dioceses.
