POPE’S DAY Mass on June 30
Manila Archbishop Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales and Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams, Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines will lead the faithful in the celebration of Pope’s Day through a Solemn Eucharist on June 30, 2009 at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (Manila Cathedral) at 5:00 pm.
The Church celebrates Pope’s Day in honor of the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI who is the head of the Vatican and whose chief duty is to enrich the faith of the people with the Lord and to strengthen the union of the faithful in the Church and with Christ.
The celebration of Pope’s day begins as a way of intensifying and deepening the perception of the teachings of the Church as well as to have a wider and greater knowledge of the spiritual leadership of the Supreme Pontiff.
Various activities like the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, confessions and praying of the Holy Rosary are some of the many ways to celebrate Pope’s day.
In other countries, the people distribute on the streets the writings about the Pope while others prepare talks, forum and video presentation showcasing and honoring the many contributions of the Holy Father.
