Pondo ng Pinoy Celebrates its 8th Anniversary

Pondo ng Pinoy, the movement initiated by Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales in the Archdiocese of Manila,
celebrates its eighth anniversary on September 1, 2012 with the theme, “Pondo Ng Pinoy: Daluyan
Ng Pananampalataya At Pagsasaksi!”
at the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Quadricentennial Pavilion, España, Manila.

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Tagle leads in the celebration with the Mass at 10:30 a.m. Participants can start registering at 9:30 a.m.

The vision for Pondo ng Pinoy was crafted by Cardinal Rosales shortly after he became Archbishop of Manila in 2003.  It was launched in June 2004 as a community foundation, a private, non-profit organization that mobilizes local resources to support development-oriented humanitarian projects that benefit the poor.  The theology behind it comes from the Gospel of Luke 16:19-32, the theology of the crumbs. Being part of the movement means doing small ordinary acts of goodness that build up character and virtue. These small acts are exemplified through the gathering of crumbs represented by 25 centavo coins everyday, and at the end of the week, on Sunday, are offered at Mass as a sign of one’s love for Jesus Christ through love for the poor. This is shown through its slogan, “Anumang magaling, kahit maliit, basta malimit ay patungong langit.”

Although the Archdiocese of Manila spearheaded Pondo ng Pinoy, all the suffragan dioceses of Metropolitan See of Manila and some other dioceses are members. It also supports projects to improve the lives of the poor not only in Metro Manila but all over the country.

The Pondo ng Pinoy board will present its report on the collection and projects of Pondo ng Pinoy for the past year during the afternoon program.
