Blind tenor, pianist in benefit concert
for
CBCP Commission on Family Life
John Paul II International Center for Family and Communication together
with Sinagtala will present CARLOS ALBERTO IBAY in a solo concert
at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater) at the Cultural
Center of the Philippines on February 27 at 8 p.m.
Carlos Alberto Ibay is a blind tenor and pianist. He was a premature
baby and was barely two pounds when he was born. Her mother insisted
to carry her pregnancy to term even though the doctor advised her
to have an abortion because she was going to have a very complicated
pregnancy. Carlos’ exposure to oxygen in the nursery incubation
caused the complete loss of his vision.
At the age of 9, Carlos became a child of prodigy in piano and
voice. At the age of 24, he speaks fluent German, French, Spanish,
Italian, Russian and Japanese. A versatile pianist, Carlos also
possesses a “bel canto” tenor voice. His voice repertoire
includes sacred areas: Broadway musicals, classical jazz, Filipino
and Italian favorites, music in international languages and popular
hits.
John Paul II challenged the families to be the Good News for the
Third Millennium during the IV World Meeting of Families last January.
Modern society is indeed suffering from a spiritual crisis. And
the older generation has failed to tell our young people where the
solution to this crisis can be found: in uncompromising moral principles,
in prayer and Sacraments, in true teachings about God and the covenant
of Love, and in family life where Love is strong and true.
The concert entitled “A Gift of Love” will be for
the benefit of The Episcopal Commission on Family and Life (ECFL),
The Millennium Saint Foundation, Inc. (MSFI), and The Springs of
Carmel Foundation.
