Laity week begins Sept. 27
The Archdiocese of Manila celebrates laity week beginning
on September 27 the eve of the feast of San Lorenzo Ruiz,
the first Filipino saint, and culminating on October 3.
The Lay Formation Center (LAYFORCE) announced that the theme
for the celebration is “Ikaw, Ako… Layko!”
(Call to Love and Mission) and points to the special calling
that the laity are called to in the Church. The pinnacle of
this response, LAYFORCE said, is seen in the martyrdom of
St. Lorenzo Ruiz, whose great love for the Lord enabled him
to endure torture and persecution, and finally embrace death,
rather than renounce his Catholic faith.
The week long festivities are aimed at raising awareness
of the laity’s role in the Church. “Who are the
lay faithful? The laity is composed of men and women (single,
married, widow, widower) who fulfill their Christian vocation
in the world, in the family, in the workplace, recreation
centers, streets, etc. He works hand-in-hand with the priests
and the religious in evangelizing the world we all live in.
But the layman is the prime mover of transformation in the
society.
The complete schedule of activities for laity week is as
follows:
September 27, Saturday, will be the red-letter day for the
Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) officers of the Archdiocese
of Manila. From 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the parish leaders
will be nourished to be a transforming Church, and encouraged
to be the face and voice of God on earth. Venue: Lay Formation
Center, San Carlos Pastoral Formation Complex, EDSA, Guadalupe,
Makati City.
On September 28, Sunday, the Layman’s Prayer will be
launched through a circular from Jaime L. Cardinal Sin. This
could be followed by two –three minute sharing after
communion at every mass of how the layman has been transformed
and empowered to lead a life for God and for others.
For five consecutive evenings, September 29 to October 3
from 6 to 9 p.m., the Laity’s Festival of Love and Mission
will be held at the “WOW Philippines” Clamshell.
The public is invited. Entrance is free. Every night, the
