Archbishop Rosales to be installed
in Manila on Nov 21
Archbishop
Gaudencio B. Rosales will be installed Archbishop of Manila
in liturgical and canonical rites on Nov. 21 beginning at
9 a.m. at the Manila Cathedral. This was announced by Auxiliary
Bishop of Manila Socrates B. Villegas on Oct 7. Archbishop
Rosales arrived early morning on that day from a three-week
visit in Rome and other parts of Europe. He was in Rome for
the ad limina visit to the Vatican of the Philippine bishops,
after which he went on a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France.
It was also announced that Archbishop Rosales would take
up residence at the Arzobispado de Manila in Intramuros, which
also houses the archdiocesan curia and the offices of the
various archdiocesan ministries.
Archbishop Rosales went to Villa San Miguel after he had
breakfast at the Apostolic Nunciature. He met with Jaime L.
Cardinal Sin and they talked mostly about Archbishop Rosales’
recent trip to Rome and also about some arrangements for his
installation as the new archbishop of Manila. It must be recalled
that the two served together in the Archdiocese of Manila
before Archbishop Rosales was named Bishop of Malaybalay in
1984. Archbishop Rosales was appointed auxiliary bishop of
Manila in August 1974, soon after Cardinal Sin was installed
Archbishop of Manila in March, 1974. Archbishop Rosales proceeded
to Lipa after his call on the Cardinal. He will stay in Lipa
until his installation to attend to some matters in the archdiocese
he is leaving behind.
