REV. FR. ALBERT MEERSSCHAERT, 95
Rev. Fr. Albert Meersschaert, CICM, long-time professor, formator, and spiritual director at the San Carlos Seminary passed away on August 12, 2010. He was 95 years old.
Fr. Albert (as he was fondly called) served in various posts in the country. He was assistant priest in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (1948-1951); prefect and professor at the Lipa Major Seminary, Lipa, Batangas City (1951-1953); and professor/prefect/rector at the San Carlos Seminary, Guadalupe, Makati City (1953-2004). He was also a confessor at the Edsa Shrine until he became sick.
A wake was held at the Centennial Hall of the CICM Provincial House in New Manila, Quezon City on August 13 and 15 after which he was transferred to San Carlos Seminary in Guadalupe, Makati City until August 16, 2010. Manila Archbishop Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales celebrated Mass for him on the evening of August 15. Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas celebrated the mass on August 16 before he was brought to Maryhurst Seminary in Baguio City. (See Archbishop Villegas’ homily).
Interment was held on August 17, 2010 after the 9 a.m. Mass at the Maryhurst Seminary Chapel in Baguio City.
